Affordable Dependent Care:

Every family deserves the freedom to work, provide, and thrive without being crushed by the cost of caring for their loved ones. Yet in Virginia and across the country, too many parents and caregivers are forced to choose between their jobs and their children, or between financial stability and caring for aging parents.

I believe access to affordable, high-quality dependent care, whether for children, seniors, or people with disabilities, is a basic economic need and a public good. It should not be a luxury reserved for the wealthy.

Access to dependent care is essential to rebuilding a strong economy, closing gender and racial wage gaps, and ensuring that no one has to choose between caring for loved ones and making ends meet.

Dan’s Plan:

  • Universal pre-K and expanded child care subsidies for working and middle-class families

  • Tax credits and direct support for family caregivers who care for elderly relatives at home

  • Increased investment in long-term care infrastructure, including home- and community-based services that allow seniors to age with dignity

  • Better wages and training for care workers, so we can grow and retain a skilled, compassionate care workforce
